bent hamer

Director, scriptwriter, producer

Director, scriptwriter, producer and owner of the film production company BulBul Film, Bent Hamer was born in Sandefjord, Norway. After a couple of years at The University of Oslo studying law he worked for some years as a sailboat skipper. In 1986 he moved to Stockholm where he completed his education in Film Theory and Literature at the University of Stockholm and in film making at Stockholm Filmskola.
 

His latest feature film HOME FOR CHRISTMAS was released November 2010. The international premiere was at Toronto IFF followed by the European premiere at San Sebastian IFF where he won the Best Screenplay Award.

 

O' HORTEN (2007) had its international premiere in 'Un Certain Regard' in Cannes 2008. Bent's feature films also include FACTOTUM (2005), KITCHEN STORIES (2003) and EGGS (1995) which all had their international premiere at the 'Director's Fortnight' in Cannes. KITCHEN STORIES received The Europa Cinemas Prize in Cannes. Both EGGS and KITCHEN STORIES were awarded The International Film Critics Prize (FIPRESCI).

O' HORTEN and KITCHEN STORIES were Norways entry for The Academy Award.

 
Bent's films have been distributed in more than 40 countries, they have participated in numerous film festivals around the world and have won him some 40 awards.
